- Season: May 8 to October 24, 2026

Step 1: Get to the Maid of the Mist Plaza
The Plaza is at the Niagara Falls Observation Tower in Niagara Falls State Park, near the Rainbow Bridge. Walk in from anywhere in downtown Niagara Falls NY (15 to 20 minutes). If parking, use the Niagara Falls State Park lot ($10 weekday, $14 weekend). From the Canadian side, walk across Rainbow Bridge (CAD 1 toll) and into the State Park.
Step 2: Buy your ticket
Tickets are sold at the Plaza at three windows. Cash or card. Skip the line is offered as part of the Niagara USA Discovery Pass ($46) which includes the Cave of the Winds, Niagara Adventure Theatre and aquarium too. Buy online in advance via the Maid of the Mist website to print at home.
Step 3: Take the elevator down to the dock
The Plaza has two glass elevators that descend 200 feet to the boat dock at the base of the gorge. The ride takes 30 seconds. From the dock, you collect your free blue Maid of the Mist poncho and queue for the next boat.
Step 4: Board the boat
Boats depart every 15 minutes during peak hours. Capacity is 600 passengers per boat across two decks. The upper deck has open air viewing, the lower deck has covered seating. For the best view and the most spray, head to the upper deck and stand at the bow.
Step 5: The 20 minute trip
The boat sails upstream past the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls (where the Cave of the Winds boardwalk is visible to your left). Then it noses into the basin of the Horseshoe Falls. The captain holds position for 5 to 8 minutes inside the basin so you can take photos and feel the spray. Then the boat returns to the dock.
Step 6: After the ride
Drop the poncho in the recycling bins at the dock. Take the elevator back up to the Plaza. Head to the Cave of the Winds (5 minute walk) or the Niagara Falls Observation Tower for the wide angle view back at the boat you just rode.
